Our Company’s Carbon Footprint
Sustainability is not just another item on the PeoplePath to-do list. Reducing carbon emissions across the company is an important initiative. What counts is tangible actions in emission reduction, which we’re excited to share.
Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will play a critical role in the global response to climate change. According to the World Bank, they make up about 90% of businesses and account for 50% of employment worldwide.
At PeoplePath, we want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to be conscious of our climate impact and reduce emissions wherever possible.

Carbon Accounting
How we calculate
In 2019 and 2020 we calculated our Corporate Carbon Footprint with Planetly (sold to OneTrust).
Since 2021 we have worked with Plan A. They created the first carbon management and ESG platform audited and certified by TÜV Rheinland.
Plan A uses accredited methodologies to calculate emissions based on the latest scientifically accepted carbon emission factors, in accordance with the GHG Protocol Standards.
What we calculate
Scope 1 emissions are direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by an organization.
Scope 2 referst to indirect emissions that result from the generation of purchased electricity, heat, or steam that an organization consumes as part of their business operations.
Scope 3 shows indirect emissions that result from a company's upstream and downstream activities but occur from sources outside of its boundaries.
"You don't need to climb Everest, but rather pick a hill and go. Companies often mistake the sustainability journey for an utterly complex one. It is a lot simpler. You must take the first step and start implementing actions leading to a significant shift in positioning as a market leader."

Learnings
Initially we compensated for our company’s carbon footprint by investing in projects that qualified for recognized labels like the Gold Standard® and Verra® Standard.
We quickly learned that buying offsets to claim carbon neutrality isn’t enough. We want to do better for long-term climate impact. The most ambitious steps to reducing emissions must be prioritized.
The most ambitious steps to reducing emissions across scope 1 to 3 must be prioritized by us, and our industry peers. We want to work with science based targets and deliver on ambitious goals.
Our Commitment
Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
In 2024 we applied for the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) SME route to set ambitious science-based targets.
The SBTi partners with the United Nations Global Compact, the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Together with its partners, the SBTi develop standards, tools, and guidance which enables companies to set reduction targets in line with what is needed to minimize global warming.
SME Climate Hub
We pledged to halve our emissions by 2025 compared to the base year of 2019, and to achieve net zero emissions by 2030, signing a commitment with the global NPO SME Climate Hub,
This is an initiative of the We Mean Business Coalition, the Exponential Roadmap Initiative and the United Nations Race to Zero campaign in collaboration with Normative and the Net Zero team at Oxford University to empower climate action.

Note: At PeoplePath, we don't buy sustainability seals to impress. Their credibility can be difficult to verify and therefore misleading. Instead, we want to invest that money in accredited emission reduction, avoidance, and removal projects to maximize the impact of our sustainability budget.
